In 1913, W. K. Hatt initiated the Civil Engineering Conference to address the needs of county surveyors and city engineers, focusing on roads and streets. A similar conference in 1914 led to a resolution advocating for an annual School of Good Roads in Indiana. By 1915, the conference was renamed Purdue Road School. The impact has endured through the years, and since 2011, over 500 archived presentations are available online, hosted by Purdue Libraries, showcasing the ongoing significance of Purdue Road School beyond its annual March event.
Now hosting the 110th Purdue Road School, this conference offers over 200 sessions in 18 technical tracks, showcasing the latest in transportation innovations. This year’s event will open with a Session Fireside Chat with distinguished guests, including Arvind Raman, Dean of Engineering at Purdue University, and Michael Smith, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
