The City of Bloomington has announced the winners of the 2023 Local-Motion Grant Program, which is aimed at promoting pedestrian and bicycle mobility. The program supports innovative projects from various organizations committed to sustainable transportation. Recipients include the Boys and Girls Clubs, MCCSC Adult Education, Monroe County Public Library, and Monroe County YMCA. The projects range from teaching children safe biking through the Club Riders Program to promoting cycling for students and adults. The City emphasizes the positive impact of these initiatives on enhancing pedestrian and bicycle mobility in the community.
“It is truly inspiring to witness remarkable organizations in our community dedicated to promoting walking and biking,” said Hank Duncan, City of Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. “This commitment to outdoor programming and events complements the City’s emphasis on complete streets and low-stress infrastructure, fostering a comprehensive approach to walking and biking that significantly enriches our community.
The City of Bloomington is also hosting a Climate Action Workshop to educate community members about Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax incentives, which can lead to both cost savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Electrifying homes can save households an average of $1,800 annually. Rewiring America will present IRA tax incentives and demonstrate an online calculator for potential savings based on electric appliance choices. The workshop, available both in-person at Switchyard Park and virtually via Zoom on Jan 10, 2024, will also feature the Economic and Sustainable Development Department discussing additional funding sources. No registration is required for this free event.
