IndyGo has already saved 21,555 metric tons of carbon emissions and 2,100,000 gallons of diesel fuel through its combination of hybrid and electric buses. IndyGo plans to increase those sustainable transportation efforts through the recently awarded $19 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The additional funding from the FTA’s Buses and Bus Facilities and Low- and No-Emission Vehicle programs from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will allow IndyGo to purchase 40-foot diesel-electric hybrid buses to replace older buses in its fleet.
‘”Receiving this money for these buses will further the progress we’ve already made as we work to continually reduce harmful emissions in the downtown core of Indianapolis,” IndyGo President and CEO Inez Evans said. “We’re grateful for these funds and the continued support from the FTA in helping empower us to come closer to reaching our near-zero emissions goals and safely move Indianapolis forward.”‘
Inez Evans oversees Indiana’s largest transit agency and recently joined as a Greater Indiana Board Member. IndyGo is committed to transitioning to a clean fleet is critical to reducing harmful emissions in Indiana’s most densely populated corridors.
