A webinar will be held on June 6 at 4 pm ET to discuss the Electrified Propulsion Vehicles (xEV) High-Voltage Electrical Safety Standards recently released by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). The standards were established to minimize the hazards and associated impacts of working on or around all varieties of EVs for individuals working in the automotive, truck, and commercial electrical industries. These standards also provide guidance for employers, including emergency response training, forms of PPE, physical barriers, signage, guarding, tools, lockout/tagout, and other elements of an electrically safe work condition.
“The standards also establish several levels of certification for technicians and associated skills, along with certification tests for each. Level One xEV Electrical Safety Awareness Certification is designed for anyone who may encounter an EV in the workplace. It is not limited to technicians — it’s open to anyone who performs tasks in proximity of xEVs, including sales, service, repair, or other related areas. Level Two Technician Electrical Safety Certification is for a service professional, technician, or specialist who has received high-voltage electrical training, has demonstrated skills and knowledge related to the construction, operation, and repair of electrically powered high-voltage vehicles, maintains an electrically safe working area, and uses required personal protective equipment (PPE). Level Three High-Voltage Vehicle and Battery Technician Certification builds on Level Two and includes skills for diagnostics and repair work inside the high-voltage battery. Note, Level Three is currently under development and not yet defined in the standards.”
