The Biden administration announced it will provide nearly $1 billion to approximately 530 school districts across 47 states and the District of Columbia. This funding, part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program, will help purchase over 3,400 clean school buses, about 92% of which will be electric.
A significant portion of the funding is designated for low-income, rural, and tribal communities, which make up about 45% of the selected projects. These communities have historically suffered from disproportionate air pollution impacts, leading to severe health outcomes.
Started under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Clean School Bus Program has now awarded nearly $3 billion to fund around 8,500 electric and alternative fuel buses for over 1,000 communities nationwide. This effort aims to transform the nation’s school bus fleet with zero-emission and low-emission models, mitigating the negative health effects of diesel exhaust exposure. Learn more!
