Exciting developments are underway in the City of West Lafayette. Completing Phase II in the River Road CSO Project marks a significant milestone after an 18-month closure. The addition of a 15x15x1000 ft. underground storage tank has significantly reduced combined sewer overflow incidents, demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability. Looking ahead, the final phase in spring 2026 focuses on enhancing the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Meanwhile, the realization of Cason Park exemplifies the power of community collaboration. Originating in 2014 with the restoration of the historic 1879 schoolhouse, the park has evolved into a visionary space featuring a 4.5-acre fishing and boating pond, nature playgrounds, an outdoor event pavilion, and more. With a scheduled opening in spring 2025, the park is a testament to the dedication of citizens, city officials, and contributors.
On another front, the city is gearing up for a transformative upgrade in public safety. A feasibility study identified the need for a new Fire Station #2, prompting plans for a modernized Public Safety Center adjacent to the existing Police Department. This innovative facility will address the immediate needs of West Lafayette’s growing population and incorporate sustainable energy initiatives such as EV charging and solar power. Anticipated to be completed by spring 2024, the Public Safety Center aims to enhance the overall well-being of our community for the next 30 years.
