Indiana Landfill Starts Producing RNG
A landfill gas-to-energy system provided by Waga Energy has started producing renewable natural gas (RNG) at a landfill in central Indiana, according to France-based Waga, which has an American office near Philadelphia.
The RNG system has been installed at the Decatur Hills Landfill in Greensburg, Indiana, which is owned by Kalamazoo, Michigan-based Best Way Disposal, according to Waga.
The installed Wagabox unit upgrades gas emitted by landfilled waste into what the companies call “clean, local, and renewable energy, injected directly into the local gas grid.”
“Decatur Hills is very excited to be part of this great clean energy project,” says Curt Publow, an environmental compliance manager at the site. “It has taken a long time to find the right partner, and we think that Waga Energy has some unique solutions that will bring this resource from the landfill to the energy grid as a sustainable, renewable fuel.”
