Pennsylvania Continues Shift Toward Thriving Electric Transportation Sector

Pennsylvania has unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Pittston, funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. This collaboration between the federal government, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Pilot, and General Motors resulted in a station near Scranton equipped with four charging ports capable of providing 175 kW to 350 kW of power each. Conveniently located near Scranton Airport, the station, part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, supports the goal of building a reliable EV charging network spanning 79,000 miles of U.S. roads. Greater Indiana worked with INDOT and HNTB to create Indiana’s EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan, conducting outreach and education to stakeholders, gathering and sharing information through the NEVI Program, and collecting feedback and insights to inform the plan’s creation. Greater Indiana is currently part of the program management team assisting with vendor engagement over the next five years. The Charging the Crossroads team is currently working on reviewing the over 100 applications received for the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). INDOT anticipates application reviews will be completed in February, with potential owner-operators to be selected in March. Installation of initial charging stations is anticipated to begin in 2025.
