Residents of Indianapolis have the opportunity to use an e-bike in the city at no cost.
Indianapolis community members can register for IndyRides Free for unlimited 30-minute trips for one year. After 30 minutes, there is a $0.25 fee for every extra minute. The announcement follows the launch of 325 e-bikes around the city. Each bike is equipped with an electric pedal assist feature and a speedometer.
Indianapolis Cultural Trail Executive Director Karen Haley said the bikes are funded by a $1.2 million Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The nonprofit is responsible for the fleet’s unveiling and partnered with the City of Indianapolis.
Nonresidents can also register for the pass but must pay a fee.
