“Citizens’ average residential natural gas bill over the past year ranked the lowest among the 19 gas utilities operating in the state, according to a monthly survey done by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. In addition to passing on the cost of natural gas to customers with no markup, Citizens employs a number of measures to keep costs down. These measures include utilizing its underground natural gas storage fields, buying gas in advance of the winter at fixed prices, and entering into long-term gas supply contracts with discounts to market prices.”
Citizens Energy Group projects a decrease in monthly natural gas heating bills by an average of $17 for the winter heating season. The estimated total average natural gas bill for November through March is anticipated to be around $462, compared to $546 the previous winter. Citizens employs cost-saving measures such as utilizing storage fields, purchasing gas in advance at fixed prices, and entering into long-term supply contracts. Financial assistance is available, and Citizens is hosting a Community Resource Day for connections to various resources. Eligible customers can benefit from the Indiana Energy Assistance Program and Citizens’ Universal Service Program. Conservation tips are also provided, including furnace maintenance, water heater temperature adjustment, addressing air leaks, and upgrading to high-efficiency appliances.
