After serving on the Greater Indiana Clean Cities, Inc. Board for 20 years, Larry Campbell, CPFP, was also nominated and approved by the board as an Honorary Director as he steps into an official retirement from nearly 50 years of fleet service. Most recently, Larry served as the Fleet Operations Director in Fort Wayne, IN. Under his direction, the Fort Wayne Fleet has been in the top 100 best Government Fleet the past fifteen years since 2005, from number one in 2006 to elite fleet and other different rankings; Named one of the 100 best green fleets since 2008; Top 20 in Leading Fleets, and numerous sustainability recognitions.
Campbell was named the Government Fleet Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year in 2012 and was inducted into the Government Fleet Public Fleet Hall of Fame in 2014. Just before retirement, Campbell was named the Professional Manager of the Year – Public Fleet for the American Public Works Association (APWA) – Indiana Chapter in 2022. ‘With nearly five decades in fleet, Campbell has gained much knowledge about the industry. His advice is to embrace change. “There’s always something changing in the automotive industry or within fleets. Whether it’s new technology coming out, alternative fuels, the electrical side of it — there are so many other things. It never stops changing. If you don’t stay on top of it, it’s going to pass you by. And it’ll pass you quickly,” Campbell said.’
Our team is thankful to have had the City of Fort Wayne’s Fleet Director serving on our board for two decades. He started the fleet management practices for the city and led their efforts to transition to alternative fuel vehicles. We wish him the best in his retirement and are grateful to have him continue sharing his experience and insight with our team.
