President Joe Biden, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Democratic Members of Congress from Minnesota, and local Twin Cities community leaders came together at Cummins’ Fridley, Minnesota plant to call attention to the benefits of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on American manufacturing jobs. Cummins also took to the podium to announce their additional $1 billion investment spread across their U.S. manufacturing network in Indiana, North Carolina, and New York.
“As a result of this legislation, we saw demand for U.S.-made electrolyzers skyrocket,” said Tony Satterthwaite, Senior Vice President, Cummins Inc. “And what you see here today is our ability to capitalize on that demand and create 100 new jobs at Fridley with many more at our supply base, as well as upskill part of our existing workforce.”
Electrolyzers have mainly been produced overseas and play a critical role in clean energy supply chains. The 89,000 sq. ft Fridley facility will be dedicated to electrolyzer manufacturing for Cummins’ zero-emission technology brand, Accelera. The investment into America’s workforce and U.S.-based manufacturing is just a part of Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy.
