As a sponsor for the 6th annual Indiana Renewable Energy Day, Greater Indiana was excited to participate in the festivities at the Indiana Statehouse on February 13. Our team shared information on alternative fuel projects and technologies with legislators and attendees, contributing to the community’s dedication to positive environmental impact. The press conference included policymaker and advocate speakers, emphasizing the importance of clean, reliable, and affordable energy for Hoosier communities. Indiana State Representative Carey Hamilton briefly discussed her work on community solar bill HB 1193. Though this bill did not receive a hearing, she emphasized how important it was for various organizations to collaborate and leverage the manufacturing sector to be part of the solution for a clean and resilient community. Specifically, she asked attendees to “…engage your local elected officials and candidates for office in this conversation ask them to commit to being renewable energy champions, to being community solar champions, to being common sense energy policy champions.”
This year’s event marked substantial growth, with attendance increasing from 40 to over 200 participants. In collaboration with organizations like Solar United Neighbors, the event educated attendees on renewable energy and advocated for clean energy initiatives in Indiana. Shannon Anderson, Director of Advocacy for Earth Charter Indiana, stressed the importance of informing lawmakers about the public’s desire for environmentally friendly energy policies. The event facilitated connections between Indiana residents and legislative figures, fostering discussions on environmental policies and clean energy concerns. Open to the public, attendees could gather information about their city’s energy profile.
