Historic $1.3 billion funding for EV charging network now open

The Biden-Harris Administration has launched applications for a groundbreaking $1.3 billion in funding to expand the national electric vehicle charging network. This is the largest EV charging grant opportunity in U.S. history, aiming to boost both public and private investments in clean transportation.

Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $2.5 billion Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program and the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, this initiative supports the deployment of EV chargers in urban and rural areas along highways and major roads. It prioritizes disadvantaged communities with zero-emission freight infrastructure.

The program, administered by the Federal Highway Administration, is open to various government entities and focuses on the strategic deployment of Level 2 and DC fast chargers. It aligns with the goal of establishing 500,000 public EV charging stations and reducing national greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

Applications are due by August 28, 2024, on grants.gov, with special reconsideration for unselected first-round applicants. Public webinars will provide further details on June 6 and June 11.
