The Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) aims to explore overseas markets, introduce new products, and enhance the availability of items such as biodiesel as part of its strategic goals. During the recent winter meeting, Kevin Cox, a farmer from Brazil, Ind., was elected as the new board chair. Cox emphasized the importance of working with global companies buying soybeans and promoting the cultivation of crops like high oleic soybeans to ensure profitability for Indiana soybean farms. The ISA’s leadership changes also include Denise Scarborough as vice chair, Keevin Lemenager as secretary, and Carey McKibben as treasurer. The organization plans to address challenges in agriculture and boost soybean crop value through various initiatives.
“We are living in a special time in agriculture,” Cox explained. “Even in challenging weather conditions, we are producing record or near-record yields of soybean crops. As the state’s checkoff representing thousands of Indiana farmers, our challenge is to make sure that we can keep the value of those crops at a high level. I believe we are doing that. By working with companies from all over the world that buy soybeans, or by encouraging farmers to plant crops like high oleic soybeans that come with premium prices, we are working to make Indiana soybean farms more profitable.”
