To support the mission of the EPA’s $5 billion Clean School Bus Program, Blue Bird, in collaboration with InCharge Energy, breaks down the facility electrification process for schools. The process begins with a thorough site assessment, considering factors like bus lot layout, electrical capacity, and route analysis for optimal charging solutions. Following this, an installation survey creates a strategic plan and a proposal covering all expenses is provided, offering options for turnkey installation or final bolt-down. The installation phase, managed entirely by the bus manufacturer or in collaboration with a school district’s crew, is designed to ensure a successful deployment of electric buses.
The EPA has already allocated nearly $2 billion from the Clean School Bus Program funds, aiding the purchase of approximately 5,000 school bus replacements at over 600 schools. The recent extension of the Clean School Bus Rebate Program deadline to February 14 provides stakeholders additional time to engage partners. This rebate program, with a minimum of $500 million, supports the acquisition of compressed natural gas (CNG), electric, and propane school buses, along with necessary fueling infrastructure. The EPA expects to announce rebate winners in April. The Greater Indiana team stands ready to assist schools in navigating the rebate application process, offering quick support and facilitating connections with alternative fuel bus manufacturers.
