LanzaJet has unveiled the world’s first ethanol-based alcohol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) commercial production plant, named Freedom Pines Fuels, in Soperton, Georgia. Supported by the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technology Office since 2016, the facility aims to produce nine million gallons of SAF and one million gallons of renewable diesel in its first year. This achievement is a major step in meeting the DOE Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge, addressing the critical need for such facilities to scale up new technologies for SAF production. The facility is expected to generate economic benefits, including $5 million in new wages, $70 million in annual economic activity, and approximately 80 new jobs for the local economy.
