The City of Bloomington has introduced a voucher program to encourage the purchase of E-bikes among its residents. The program offers $500 vouchers for all residents and $1,000 vouchers for low-income residents looking to buy E-bikes from local bike stores. The popularity of E-bikes, known for their versatility and ease of use, has been on the rise. To qualify for the voucher, applicants must reside within Bloomington city limits, be registered in the GoBloomington and Zero in Bloomington programs, and submit a W-9 form after the initial application. Low-income voucher applicants need a household income below 80% of the local area median income or 60% of the state median income. The program, aligning with the City’s Climate Action and Transportation Demand Management Plans, aims to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips and associated emissions, congestion, and accidents. The pilot year will make 15 low-income vouchers and 30 general population vouchers available for use at specific local bike stores.
