Dan Raudebaugh, Executive Director of the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), participated in the White House Roundtable on Clean Bus Manufacturing, a collaborative effort with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The roundtable aims to bolster U.S. capacity for manufacturing clean transit buses to meet market demand and national climate and equity goals. CTE actively moderated a discussion on reducing the cost and complexity of FTA-funded transit bus procurements, presenting insights from the FTA’s Transit Vehicle Innovation Deployment Centers (TVIDC) program. This program focuses on researching and developing advanced vehicle and infrastructure technologies in public transportation, fostering collaboration with industry stakeholders. FTA’s engagement with CTE under the TVIDC program included hosting an industry stakeholder group to address bus specifications and customization challenges. CTE is contributing to incentivizing manufacturing economies of scale, creating robust supply chains, and lowering costs for transit operators while ensuring healthier margins for manufacturers. The organization expresses enthusiasm for continued collaboration with the White House, FTA, and APTA partners through the TVIDC program, emphasizing their commitment to driving innovation and advocating for zero-emission transportation.
