The EPA announced the opening of the 2024 Clean School Bus (CSB) Rebate Program application period! This is the third rebate funding opportunity through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s multi-year CSB Program. Under the 2024 CSB Rebate Program, the EPA anticipates awarding up to $965 million in rebate funding with the potential to modify this figure based on the application pool and other factors.
To allow for more transformative projects, the EPA has increased the maximum number of buses funded per application from 25 to 50 school buses. Eligible applicants can apply to receive funding for the purchase of zero-emission (ZE) and/or clean school buses (propane or compressed natural gas), and the purchase and installation of ZE charging infrastructure for applicants requesting ZE buses; selected applicants may also use their awarded rebate funds for workforce training, consulting costs for bus deployments, and bus warranty costs. The EPA will also provide additional funding per bus for ADA-compliant buses and for applicants not located in one of the lower 48 contiguous states to cover shipping costs.
2024 Clean School Bus Rebate Program applicants must submit all application materials by January 9th, 2025, at 4:00PM ET through the Applicant Dashboard. When submitting an application, all applicants will be required to submit one or more of the following supplemental forms: School District Approval Certification, School Board Awareness Certification, and/or Utility Partner Template. All forms must be signed by an authorized representative prior to submitting the application.
