Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition Recognizes CityBus

The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition awarded CityBus with the Clean Air Champion Award. They are being recognized for their efforts in switching from diesel fuel to compressed natural gas or CNG.

GREATER LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – CityBus of Greater Lafayette is being recognized for efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition awarded CityBus with the Clean Air Champion Award. This is the second year that CityBus has been recognized. They are being recognized for their efforts in switching from diesel fuel to compressed natural gas or CNG. Using CNG reduces CityBus’s fuel costs, lowers maintenance and repair expenses. Bryce Gibson the Manager of Development for CityBus says that using CNG as opposed to diesel isn’t only friendly to the environment but also tax payers.

“So we also want to be pragmatic and we want to make sure that we are spending tax dollars wisely,” said Gibson. “That’s how we arrived at this decision to use compressed natural gas because those capital costs are much lower, fuel costs are lower and maintenance costs are lower.”

CityBus has a goal of having all their buses converted to using CNG by 2025. This year they will replace 4 of their diesel buses, with buses that run on CNG.
