According to ACT Research’s CHARGING FORWARD study of the US commercial vehicle market, adoption rates for zero-emission and decarbonization vehicles are projected to reach 25% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The study cites regulations as a key factor, particularly for higher Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) applications. Lower GVW applications today offer a better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The adoption rate is expected to remain relatively low from 2024 through 2026 due to the early stage of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) sales. However, by 2027, factors such as stricter emissions regulations and the adoption of Advanced Clean Trucks in several states are expected to drive moderate growth in adoption rates. By 2040, more than 50% of commercial vehicles are forecasted to have zero emissions, primarily Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The study considers improved battery technology and increased charging infrastructure utilization to contribute to this growth.
