South Bend Ethanol Plant Begins $230 Million Expansion Project
Developments are underway at the South Bend ethanol plant, now owned by Verbio. A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of a $230 million expansion project to boost climate-friendly energy production in the area. The expanded plant will produce renewable natural gas, or RNG, from corn stillage, a co-product of ethanol production, while producing bioethanol. This dual-production facility will be only one of two in the United States to utilize ethanol energy for RNG creation.
