Fortune 500 companies, including Google, Frito-Lay, Staples, Hertz, Enterprise, and Avis, have incorporated plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) into their fleets. With both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, PHEVs offer 25 to 50 miles of electric-only range, reducing environmental impact and drivers’ range anxiety. PHEV sales in the U.S. increased by 20% last year, with over 860,000 PHEVs on the road. Fleet owners can save money by encouraging employees to plug in PHEVs, with potential annual savings exceeding $200 per vehicle. Additionally, promoting charging reduces environmental costs by cutting carbon emissions. Employees can be encouraged to charge PHEVs through workplace chargers, facilitating charging on the go, reimbursing for at-home charging, updating PHEV use policies, and educating fleet drivers.
