Greater Indiana members were awarded $862,662 in Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund grants aimed at repowering and replacing equipment and vehicles with newer, cleaner alternatives of various fuel types. The Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee approved the grant applications of the Indianapolis Airport Authority and the City of Fort Wayne. With the help of Indiana Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Program funding, Greater Indiana’s members will purchase an electric transit bus and electric utility truck.
“We would like to congratulate the Greater Indiana members who were awarded funding for their vehicle replacement projects, ” said Kerri Garvin, Executive Director of Greater Indiana Clean Cities, Inc. “These projects will improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the health of Hoosiers.”
Greater Indiana worked with the City of Fort Wayne to identify the replacement vehicle, coordinate with vehicle manufacturers and write their 2021 Indiana Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Program, Round 3 grant application. Indiana Michigan Power was a vital supporter of this project and the overall adoption of electric vehicles in Indiana.
