“On May 19, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $86.7 million in funding for 45 projects across 18 states and Washington D.C. to advance research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) in several areas critical to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transportation sector. Projects selected in the fiscal year (FY) 2022 funding opportunity will support the government-wide approach to the climate crisis by driving innovation in the transportation sector that can lead to the deployment of clean energy technologies.”
Among the 45 selected projects, Purdue University was awarded almost $2.5 million for their High Energy-Efficient Hybrid Excavator Powered by Hydrogen Combustion Engine project. Cummins Inc. in Columbus, IN, was also awarded a $5 million federal cost share for their Optimized Low Carbon Fuel Range Extender project.
