Greater Indiana Clean Cities presented its Outstanding Performance for Propane-powered School Bus Fleet Award to the Tippecanoe School Corporation. The annual award recognizes companies and organizations advancing alternative fuels and technologies.
The TSC purchased its first propane-powered school bus in 2012 and now has 41 propane buses in its fleet, with a dozen more arriving later this year.
The move has drastically reduced the use of diesel fuel. “In addition to significantly reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the use of propane in TSC’s fleet has led to a significant savings to the taxpayers of Tippecanoe County due to lower costs of both fuel and maintenance,” says TSC Transportation Director Greg Haltom.
This is the second time the TSC has received this award from Greater Indiana Clean Cities.
