Fifty-four counties in Indiana are designated as maintenance counties, by U.S. EPA, for their emission levels. This status means they are close to exceeding the emission levels allowed by the U.S. EPA. When exceeded, they move to non-compliance and may be restricted in their abilities to draw new industrial and commercial businesses based on estimated emissions into their county.

The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition believes that, by educating fleet operators and the companies that operate alternative fueling infrastructure on the economic and environmental benefits of alternative fuels and technologies in their counties, and assisting them in the implementation process, it will contribute to the reduction of on road emissions, moving all counties in their region into compliance.

The program will be open to targeted Coalition members that can provide fleet or fuel sales data for analysis of the pollutants emitted prior to the deployment of their alternative fuel or technology.  The applicants will be ranked on a one to five-star rating, based on a detailed analysis of their projects emission reduction benefits.  Certified partners can promote their fleets greening efforts, as well as include in sustainability portfolio information.

Applicants must be a member of the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition, Inc.

Eligible Vehicle Types:  All on-road vehicles to include buses, medium and heavy-duty trucks, light-duty commercial and passenger vehicles are eligible for this program.

Eligible Fuel Infrastructure Operators: All owners and operators of fueling infrastructure offering on-road alternative fuels public fueling. This includes; Higher ethanol and biodiesel blends, Compressed and liquefied natural gas, Propane autogas, Electric vehicle charging ports at fuel retail stations, and hydrogen fueling infrastructure.

Emissions Targeted for Reduction and Evaluation: The program will measure reductions in four specific emissions: Fine Particulate Matter – 2.5 Microns (PM2.5); Nitrogen Oxides (NOx); Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs); Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
