“Leave this world a little better than you found it” may be a traditional Scout phrase, but it’s also the motto of anyone working in the field of sustainability. It’s a thought process we go through in any role we are given, knowing that while the world has large issues to tackle, we can play our part in making it better. This phrase echoed in my mind when I accepted the role of Executive Director for the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition. Being able to help others use alternative fuels improves our environment, energy security, and the economy.
Over the past couple of months, I had the opportunity to meet with some of our members learning about their goals and business practices incorporating the use of CNG, LNG, electric, ethanol, propane, and other fuels. The NTEA Work Truck Show, meetings regarding the VW settlement funds, the IUPUI Lugar Spring Forum, Ethanol Forum, tour of Fair Oaks Farm Renewable Natural Gas operation, and a visit to Kinetrex Energy’s LNG facility, are just a few of the items that have kept us busy.
What’s next on the agenda?
Greater Indiana is working with the State Office of Energy Development and INDOT on establishing Alternative Fuel Vehicle Corridors. We are also doing outreach on the importance of incorporating alternative fuels and vehicles into emergency preparedness plans. Look for us at the upcoming STAI Conference (School Transportation Association of Indiana) being held June 18-20, located at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
